The most common approach with a ranch home, is to have all of the bedrooms located in the same corridor, or the master bedroom suite separated by living spaces including a kitchen/great room, in the center of the home, leaving the bedrooms on the opposite ends of the home. This latter approach would commonly be referred to as a split bedroom ranch. The other features of the home would be determined by subdivision restrictions, budget and lifestyle requirements.
